The land of Pippi Longstocking – after all the strongest girl in the world – should be of significant interest to airlines. The World of Astrid Lindgren, the nearby theme park devoted to the children’s author, attracts an annual 450,000 visitors, including over 100,000 from Germany. It is the current nominee for RTS' 'Best Experience in Sweden'.

Reasons to go to Smaland: One of 5,000 lakes, a brand new airport...and proven demand from the UK and Germany.

And other reasons – in addition to the World of Astrid Lindgren, there is also Crystal Kingdom (“Glasriket”) and Kosta’s Elk Park – in combination, these and many other leisure and natural beauty attractions bring in excess of 1 million visitors to this region – a factor under-exploited by airlines.

Other major reasons to serve this airport

  • In 2007, Smaland Airport launched a major investment programme in order to modernise the departures hall, technical equipment and the runways/ramp area. The main goal was to enhance passenger and ramp handling to provide a quick turnaround with minimum staff.
  • The efficiency of Smaland Airport is well known and has been the subject of study for many others. Today, Smaland Airport is one of the most technically updated and modern airports in Europe. There are no slot or noise restrictions at the airport. Smaland Airport is prepared to double its passenger volumes without any further notice.
  • The landscape is highly appreciated by many as it was by the world-famous author Astrid Lindgren. The theme park “The World of Astrid Lindgren” attracts some 450,000 visitors annually – 30% from Germany. A beautiful and peaceful countryside, fishing and hiking, the region’s almost 5,000 lakes, as well as interesting towns and hamlets, are key tourist attractions as are the world-famous crystal, glass and furniture designers “Crystal Kingdom”.
