Other major reasons to serve this airport
- Malmö Airport is a preferred airport in the catchment area due to it being a low cost, fast and flexible airport offering personal and individual service to our passengers. Passengers at Malmö Airport make about 525,000 annual trips out of CPH due to the required destinations not being available at Malmö Airport.
- Due to the strong business climate in South Sweden, there is low unemployment and with the large financial growth in the region, as well as the many multi-national companies, a significant proportion of the population is very well off.
- South Sweden as a whole is a growing region. More and more head offices and businesses are being moved into the region, which dealt well with the recent economic recession. There are currently 3,000 started and planned construction projects for apartments, student housing, a handful of hotels and office space – allowing even more people to move to and work in this expanding region.
New major employers and route generators
- ESS and Max IV to Lund
The European Spallation Source (ESS) and its sister facility Max-IV (the upgrade of Max-Lab) are two major, world-leading physics research centres to be located in the Lund university city, located 25 kilometres from Malmö Airport. The ESS lab alone is estimated to already generate 700 new jobs per year – even prior to its opening. - World Village of Women Sports
The World Village of Women's Sports, Malmö, will be an international complex comprising a research centre, school, seminar and conference centre, football stadium, sports hall and much more – with the focus on all the world's female athletes. Once completed in 2012, it will attract researchers and athletes from all over the world.
