London Gatwick: You have arrived – now you can get to the centre of town fast – Buckingham Palace is a genuine 35 minutes away. Along with the dedicated Gatwick Express, a total 900 trains provided by a range of competitors serve the airport each day.
Other major reasons to serve this airport
- London Gatwick is already a Top 10 International Airport and its new owners are determined that Gatwick should become an even more important player in global aviation. It currently serves 15 million scheduled passengers, as well as charter and leading European low-cost carriers.
- London Gatwick passengers have the advantage of direct links into the heart of London's West-End and also unique access to the City of London's financial district.
- Gatwick, located on the outskirts of Greater London, has access to the 7 million-strong population of London, as well as access to a regional population of 8 million prosperous consumers. Gatwick already serves the rest of the UK through domestic flight links and long-haul services.
Stewart Wingate, the new CEO, London Gatwick Airport discusses the airline development with anna.aero: “We'd be delighted to meet with airlines anywhere in the world, to help you define the most profitable route deployment into London...slots are available to all airlines and there is quite significant off-peak capacity available.” In January 2009, Mexicana makes its first transatlantic landfall – at London Gatwick.
Marketing and other support
London Gatwick Airport would be happy to talk to any carrier about a potential new route start up. Based on the merits of the individual route and its potential growth, Gatwick Airport may offer appropriate marketing support to strengthen the promotion of the route and help ensure its success.

London is the prize, but Gatwick’s also dominates a local catchment – the UK’s most affluent non-London population – which has been underexploited in the past.
Catchment Area
Gatwick's catchment area attracts the 7 million population of London - Europe’s most prosperous and economically powerful city as well as commanding its own catchment of the South East of England - the UK's most affluent area. There are also dozens of London commuter towns and major cities within 30-60 minutes by fast road or rail.
Dazzling freight potential: long-haul services can expect to carry full and high yielding belly cargo destined for hungry UK consumers.
Under-served freight opportunities and other economic impact factors
London Gatwick handles around 75,000 tonnes of air freight and plays a pivotal role in the UK’s participation in the global economy. The airport maintains comprehensive trucking to UK and European destinations and competitive cargo handling/storage by leading names including Servisair and British Airways. There is also a modern Animal Handling Unit.
The ability to process 95% of passengers through security in less than five minutes is a key goal of current improvements in a $1.6 billion five year programme which sees substantial redevelopment of both terminals and a separate $75 million upgrade of the rail station.
Infrastructure & Operations
London Gatwick is the world’s most efficient single runway airport. Two terminals currently handle 35 million passengers a year, but it has capacity to handle 40 million. A five-year $1.6billion investment programme will further transform the infrastructure offered to both passengers and airlines.
