A deliberate strategy to embrace high speed rail has significantly expanded the catchment. The airport's own railway station beneath the terminals is served by high-speed ICE trains and a further express service to Cologne Central - the genuine hub of the European high-speed network linking Paris, Brussels, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Munich, Hanover, Hamburg and Berlin.
