Cagliari Airport (CAG/LIEE)

New routes and frequency possibilities and why these routes would work

Well-to-do Russians do the same as Western celebrities; they travel to Sardinia. The number of Russian tourists to the island is growing fast; averaging a 26% annual increase since 2005, resulting in 108,875 Russian visitors in 2008. In spite of this, there currently are no scheduled, direct services between Sardinia and Russia, which calls for a route between Cagliari and Moscow.

Throughout history, Sardinia has been settled and brought under the rule of various colonial powers, leaving historical landmarks as well as a rich culture full of traditions to be enjoyed and explored by today’s tourists. The growing 12.3-million-strong annual tourist stream to the island is likely to also be attracted by Sardinia’s remarkable beaches, which includes Pula beach near Cagliari, which generally is regarded as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.
