Half of Tenerife's one million population lives in the metropolitan area served by the airport. 30% of airport traffic is business-related domestic, with a significant proportion travelling onwards to other points.

Located only 11 kilometers from downtown Santa Cruz, the airport is the inter-island hub for the archipelago, offering a range of onward connections throughout Spain, inclusive of average 40 daily services to Madrid.
