Internationally in demand and a strong performer in emerging markets – surprisingly, vacant route opportunities include destinations in the UAE.
Other major reasons to serve this airport
- Region with strong economy.
- Málaga & the Costa del Sol: 100 km. of warm beaches.
- Important tourism and cultural attractions.
- High yield catchment area.
- Good performance of existing facilities (hotels, golf courses …).
- Málaga airport is essentially tourist focused and holds 4th position regarding total traffic in the network of Spanish airports, with 12.8 million passengers in 2011
- 65% of all passengers of the region of Andalusia fly through Málaga Airport.
- Available capacity for up to 30 million pax and efficient infrastructures: new T3 opened in March 2010 and new 3,090 m runway under construction, which will be operating in 2012.
- It´s the birthplace of Pablo Ruiz Picasso, one of the greatest artists of the twentieth century; everyone willing to discover his work should visit the museum dedicated to his legacy in the city center.
Costa del Sol – Costa de Golf (Marbella's Aloha Golf Club). Visitors to the region around Málaga love their luxuries – but they also appreciate affordable air travel and warmly welcomed Ryanair's decision to establish a base in 2010.

A rich local catchment: Local Marbella residents, Mr and Mrs Antonio Banderas, are joined by Eva Longoria at the fundraising Starlite Gala at Marbella’s Villa Padierna Hotel in August 2011. Puerto Banus – beloved the rich and famous and the top brand names – may soon gain nearby competitor – if Qatari Sheikh Abdullah Ben Nasser Al-Thani’s plans for a new €400m marina at La Bajadilla, east of Marbella, get the go-ahead.
Catchment Area
- 30 min catchment area: 1,115,000 population
- 60 min catchment area: 1,523,000 population
- 120 min catchment area: 3,145,000 population
I love MB and MB loves MB! First Lady Michelle Obama's holiday at Marbella's Ritz Carlton Hotel Villa Padierna in the summer of 2010 was a fantastic international advertisement for the Costa del Sol. New York is a much-desired year-round service.
